The NDIA Annual Report for 2020 -2021 and the Q1 Report 2021-2022 are out now, and while we know that some of you may want to review the documents yourselves, we also know that taking the time to read 800+ pages (the NDIA do love their long documents) might not be for everyone. Earlier this month the government’s planned NDIS Act Amendments Bill was tabled in parliament. The current tabled version follows on from the previous draft (exposure draft) that was submitted back in September. Although there was plenty of feedback provided regarding that exposure draft from people within the disability community, it seems that the exposure draft and the current tabled Bill are very similar. Which does explain the tight turn around between the two… Feedback for the exposure draft closed on the 7th of October and just three short weeks later the Amendments Bill made its debut.

For many participants, the CB Improved Daily Living budget (CB15) is one of the most important areas of funding. This is where professional therapy is paid from, such as physiotherapy, psychology, and occupational therapy. It is particularly important to manage the funds in this category so that crucial therapy can continue to be delivered throughout the plan, especially if reports are needed toward the end of the plan.

One of the topics we frequently receive questions about as Plan Managers is on short-term accommodation (STA) and respite. With so much to unpack when it comes to STA, we felt it was important to address the top four key questions asked by our Plan Managed participants to ensure a better understanding of STA and how it can work for you. Today, we will be answering the following questions:

• Do I have funding for respite?
• Does STA need to be stated in my plan or included as a goal?
• Can my carer or current supports come with me?
• Can STA be used in a crisis?

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) recently announced temporary measures allowing for alternative meal prep and shopping support options for some NDIS participants during the COVID-19 pandemic. This means participants in locked down areas who no longer need to use their support funding to pay for someone to cook and shop for them can now use their funding to pay for alternative meal prep and delivery services.

It’s been a long time coming, but finally on 9th September 2021, the Government released the proposed changes to the NDIS Act for a short period of consultation. As always, this is not exactly a short read. The package released by the NDIA includes the Amendments Bill, two new sets of NDIS rules, two amended NDIS rules, and three updated NDIS rules, with each of those documents having an accompanying explanatory document as well. Needless to say, it’s a lot to go through, especially if you want to provide feedback before the 7th of October deadline.

To keep things a little simpler, we’ve done the hard work for you. Our team have summarised the major changes that have been proposed.
