What is NDIS plan management

Plan management is one of three ways to manage NDIS funding, alongside self-management and NDIA-management. A registered plan manager handles the provider payments. Essentially, you have the benefit of a registered organisation looking after all of your NDIS bookwork, and you get that time back to better enjoy the things you love doing. Even better once approved for Plan Management, funding is also provided; you get all the benefits with no downside.
HOW DOES NDIS PLAN MANAGEMENT WORK?
Your providers send invoices to your plan manager. The plan manager checks each invoice against your plan and budget as well as for compliance and then confirms it with you. Eligible claims are then submitted and paid to the provider as soon as the funds are received from the NDIS. You get a monthly statement showing how your funding is tracking.
WHO PAYS A PLAN MANAGER?
The NDIS does. Plan management is funded under Improved Life Choices (Capacity Building), separately from your other supports.
DOES NDIS PLAN MANAGEMENT COST ME ANYTHING?
No. It doesn't come out of your other supports and costs you nothing out of pocket. If plan management isn't in your plan, you can ask the NDIA to change how your funding is managed without waiting for a new plan. Read more about plan management costs →
WHAT DOES A PLAN MANAGER ACTUALLY DO?
They pay your providers, keep your financial records, lodge claims with the NDIA, check spending against your plan and budget, check for compliance, send you statements, and can help you build your understanding of your funding.

WHAT DOES AN NDIS PLAN MANAGER NOT DO?
A plan manager doesn't choose your supports or providers. They can't pay more than the NDIS Price Schedule allows, or pay for supports outside your plan. First2Care doesn't deliver direct supports, so there's no overlap or conflict of interest between recommending a service and paying the invoice for it. CAN I CHANGE PLAN MANAGERS?
Yes, at any time. You don't need to wait for a plan reassessment. Check your service agreement for any notice period first. For more information, refer to How to switch plan managers →
CAN I USE REGISTERED AND UNREGISTERED PROVIDERS?
Generally, yes. Being plan-managed is one of the few ways you can use both NDIS-registered and unregistered providers, because your plan manager pays them directly rather than the NDIA.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SELF-MANAGEMENT AND PLAN MANAGEMENT?
With self-management, you pay providers and keep the records yourself. With plan management, your plan manager does the paying and record-keeping, and in most cases, you can still use any provider, registered or not.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AGENCY MANAGEMENT AND PLAN MANAGEMENT?
If the NDIA manages your funding, it pays your providers directly, but only NDIS-registered ones. If you're plan-managed, a plan manager pays providers on your behalf, and you can use registered or unregistered providers in most cases.
